About me

I’m Julia Gray.

I help purpose-driven professionals and organizations expand their impact through human-centred communication and leadership.

As an award-winning writer, educator, and researcher, with a background in the arts and a PhD from the University of Toronto, I’ve spent over two decades working across industries — arts & culture, education, healthcare, and government — helping people reframe complex ideas, shift narratives, and connect more meaningfully with others.

Whether I’m coaching a leader to leverage storytelling for their major project, facilitating a team conversation, or consulting on a strategy, my aim is the same: to help people articulate their value and vision in ways that are authentic, relational, and impactful.  I draw on research-based frameworks I’ve developed to bring structure to complexity without losing humanity.

Over the years, I’ve:

  • Supported purpose-driven professionals and organizations to communicate clearly and confidently, leading to new funding, career breakthroughs, and stronger partnerships rooted in clear communication.
  • Guided research and policy work that addressed issues from dementia stigma to equity in education.
  • Produced plays, films, and events that shifted public narratives on health and social issues.

I started my newsletter, Fair Play, in 2023 as a space to share ideas about humanity-centered lives and work, and the power of ethical and compassionate communication.

I live in Toronto with my partner and our two hilarious and creative teenagers.
